Chapter 2: First Civilizations
First five civilization of the world started with Sumer, Egypt and Nubia and the last being Olmec in 1200 B.C.E. Equality declined as time went along, in many early civilizations started to become less equal and started to promote the patriarchy. I think this is when we made a major mistake in history because this started the oppression of women. Gods in mythology started to replace goddesses. By law, only the king and his officials could use force to make decisions or to enforce a rule. Later on, this power adapted to be used by the men of the household mainly in beating slaves and beating his wife. Commoners relayed on scribes and this gave elites a monopoly since most commoners could not write or read and they didn't have enough money for it. The Mesopotamia area didn't have much going for it a lot of people would travel through it and this would cause many battles to go along. Egypt was very safe along the Nile and this provided a very reliable source of food. Goods and religion were spread by long-distance trade and they also would spread langue. Egypt would often run into Mesopotamia and this would cause many military engagements.
